Staying Independent Allows Us To Spend More Time With Patients
Since our establishment 24 years ago, Metrolina has been dedicated to becoming Charlotte, NC’s premier internal medicine practice. Metrolina Internal Medicine was founded by Dr. Calvin Harris and Dr. Clarence Ellis in 1988 when the two doctors, who shared office space for 10 years, decided to merge and bring in another doctor who had recently finished his residency training.
Dr. Harris practiced medicine in Charlotte for nearly 14 years before the merger of several different healthcare facilities. Unfortunately, he passed away suddenly two years after the merger.
Dr. Ellis moved to Charlotte in 1984 after completing his internal medicine residency training at the MCV-VCU Hospitals in 1983. He spent one year as a clinical instructor in internal medicine at the MCV-McGuire Veterans Hospital from 1983 to 1984. Dr. Ellis joined Jones Medical Associates when he moved to Charlotte in 1984. He worked closely with Dr. Jones until 1987 when he launched his solo medical practice. He began working at the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation in 1985 and resigned from that position in 1998 to focus his time on building the new Metrolina Internal Medicine. Dr. Ellis has served the Charlotte, NC community in various roles and has been recognized for his service and leadership in several capacities.
Dr. Karlton Pettis then joined the practice in 2003 after four years of private medical practice in South Florida. Together they have grown the Metrolina Internal Medicine footprint and now provide services out of two locations in the Charlotte area.
